Good evening. Odds are you've never heard of this comic book called Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose. Well, you don't know what you're missing. It began in March 2000 and is published by BroadSword Comics. It's spectacular, sort of a pagan superhero comic. The main character is Tarot, a warrior witch, sister of Raven Hex, a sorceress bent on ridding the world of all "nonbelievers" and creating a paradise for her fellow witches. Tarot, however, believes that Raven's actions will instead spark a war the witches will lose, resulting in a second "burning time." So, with her love interest/fellow fighter Jon Webb by her side, Tarot will try to foil her sister's disasterous plans. It makes for a helluva story; extremely dark at times, but very stylized and nearly silly at other times, with characters such as Jon's ghostly ex-girlfriend Brandi (now known as the "Crypt Chick"), or Tarot's flying cat Pooka. If you enjoy comics, run to your nearest shop right away and grab whatever issues of Tarot you can find. (Issue #4 should be out in September.)
